Tip Top Auto Repair: A Success Story of Dedication and Service in Gun Barrel City
March 12, 2025
Tip Top Auto Repair is a Gun Barrel City testament to the power of dedication, skill, and community spirit. Co-owned by Mike and Cassandra Huskisson, it has grown from a two-bay operation to four, drawing customers from as far as Dallas for its trusted auto repair services. Mike’s expertise in auto repair, developed throughout 55 years of experience, has driven the success of the business.

Mike's journey began with a passion for auto repair, and over the years, his skillset expanded to encompass a wide range of services. Tip Top is known for its exceptional diagnostics, air conditioning services and driveability repairs. One of his standout services is the free air conditioning check; the only shop to provide such a service in the area. Mike’s belief is simple: “The customer already knows their A/C isn’t working, so I don’t feel right charging them just to take a look; I want to help them fix it.”
Although Mike doesn't work on motors or transmissions, his focus on delivering high-quality repairs is clear to all. The shop’s investment in the latest technology, like the latest purchase of a new $65,000 alignment system, reflects Mike’s commitment to offering the best tools for the job. While Tip Top doesn’t service diesel vehicles—"that’s a young man’s game" - the shop’s dedication to detail and quality has earned it a loyal customer base.
More than a job: a lifelong passion for auto repair
One of the most unique aspects of Tip Top Auto Repair is Mike’s hands-on approach. He prides himself on doing the job the right way, ensuring that every repair meets his exacting standards. Tip Top’s staff is just Mike and Cassandra because he is picky about the quality of work at the shop. As a result, customers can trust that their vehicles are in the best hands. Tip Top Auto Repair also offers an impressive three-year, 36,000-mile warranty on its A/C work—no exceptions.
A true professional, Mike continues to expand his knowledge through research, classes, and hands-on learning. In a testament to his expertise in the auto repair field, he was active in helping manufacturers retrofit A/C systems in the 1990s with the switch in Freon that occurred at the time.
Mike’s connection with the Gun Barrel City community is another vital part of Tip Top’s success. He points to recently deceased and former GBCEDC treasurer Curtis Williams’ efforts to help him with a business plan to get his shop off the ground when he started in the area as a defining moment that underscored the caring attitude of its residents. Mike is committed to giving back, highlighted by his promise to care for Williams’ widow’s auto repair needs. He also tries to help anyone who comes through his door despite their inability to afford quality car care. His collection of M&M memorabilia and automobile paraphernalia, proudly displayed in the shop, reflects the close-knit relationships he's built over the years.
Gun Barrel City cares
Tip Top Auto Repair isn’t just a business; it’s a reflection of Gun Barrel City itself—where people care about each other and work hard to do things right. Mike and Cassandra continue to serve the community with integrity, ensuring every customer gets the best possible service at a fair price.
