The Gun Barrel City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is a community team made up of resident executives and business owners committed to improving the quality of life for residents. The Gun Barrel City EDC consists of a seven-member board and two-person office staff, funded by a $.0025 sales tax.
Our Mission
To sustain and grow the economy, while improving the quality of life for our residents by:
- Fostering business startups and expansions;
- Assisting in site selection and relocations for new and existing businesses;
- Promoting Gun Barrel City as a destination city;
- Working with partners to provide business education and job training skills;
- Helping to sustain and create job opportunities;
- Undertaking projects to improve the local environment.
What We Do
The Gun Barrel City EDC seeks to improve the quality of life for residents by attracting new investment, helping expand existing businesses within the city and providing business assistance to qualifying companies. We evaluate incentives for businesses to locate or expand in the Gun Barrel City area and base our findings on a business’s sales taxes paid, the number of jobs created or retained, wages paid, local purchases of products and services, employment gains, and the general benefits in harmony with the mission of the Gun Barrel City EDC. Special consideration is given to high-demand businesses with bases in medical/health, hospitality, retail, food and dining and distribution. Funds may be used in land lease/purchase, building lease/purchase, rehabilitation, construction, capital equipment purchase, infrastructure improvements, or employee training. Funds may not be used for venture or equity capital, working capital/inventories, or personal loans. Forms of business assistance include grants, loans, loan guarantees, real estate, SBA 504, SBA 7(A) guaranteed and direct loans, and the Rural Economic Development Fund.
